Course Description: 

This twelve-hour online course covers the essential didactic and technical fundamentals for university teaching. Through structured live sessions and self-study phases, you will gain a concise understanding of university teaching. The course is conducted entirely online, with self-study components on the Moodle learning platform and live sessions via Zoom.

Spanning four weeks, the course requires a total commitment of 12 hours and is conducted in English. You can choose an elective according to your first tasks and interests: Supervising student theses, designing courses or grading exams.

Elective Supervising: 

  • define important steps of accompanying a thesis and structure the supervision accordingly
  • identify crucial factors in supervising theses       
  • apply tools for professionally conducting feedback       
  • apply tools for a fair and correct evaluation

Elective Designing Courses: 

  • explain and apply strategies for creating a good learning environment 
  • give structure to your courses
  • include active learning elements in your courses
  • find your individual way of facilitating group processes

Elective Grading Exams: 

  • understand which regulations regarding exam formats apply to your department at TUM       
  • design exam questions that match the learning outcomes stated in the course module description       
  • apply strategies for grading that allow you to evaluate your students' work as fairly and objectively as possible
Course aims: 
  • Identify concrete steps for professional teaching development.
  • Describe the teaching tasks that may be encountered in the upcoming semester.
  • Implement success factors for teaching and learning.
Teaching methods: 

The Onboarding Program consists of live sessions and self-study elements, conducted exclusively online through the Moodle learning platform and Zoom. You will engage in learning individually, with peers from your schools, and as part of the entire class.

This course fits doctoral candidates in the following phase: 

At the beginning of the doctorate │ during the doctorate

Participation requirements: 

Teaching, Supervising or examining at TUM.

Technical requirements: 

A device capable of accessing Moodle and Zoom.
