Course Description: 

This workshop provides an introduction to entrepreneurial thinking. We ground the workshop in the strong belief that the capabilities of entrepreneurship will be critical to every scientist’s or manager’s future career, whether he or she chooses to create a standalone new venture, becomes a member of the corporate, government, or NGO world, or wants to excel in academia. The workshop is intended to provide doctoral candidates with an experience of thinking and behaving in the typical manner of successful entrepreneurs. The workshop will explore and examine the core features of entrepreneurship. The central part will be the identification and exploitation of new opportunities to create and capture value. We will also connect such endeavors to your personal motivations and goals.

Course aims: 
  • Having completed the workshop, participants should be able to recognize the fundamental features of the entrepreneurial mindset, behaviors, and skills.
  • Participants will understand the central role of teamwork and how to manage it while identifying and developing entrepreneurial opportunities.
Teaching methods: 

This is an interactive learning experience, and participants should be ready to actively contribute and reflect on exercises in class. We will rely on group discussions, and seek to include guest speakers from the ecosystem.

Prof. Hana Milanov, PhD

Prof. Hana Milanov, PhD is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at TUM. She is also an academic director of the EMBA in Innovation and Business Creation, a member of the Board of Center for Digital Technology and Management, and a member of advisory committee of Spacewalk VC (a deeptech VC fund by Motius). She served on the TUM Board of Management as a Senior Vice President for International Alliances And Alumni. In 2023, she was recognised as an Unipreneur - among Germany's 20 top professors supporting entrepreneurship.

Her research interests lie in understanding how entrepreneurs effectively acquire resources and how this influences opportunity exploitation and final performance, with an increasing focus on gender dynamics. She is passionate about teaching and working with entrepreneurial individuals and teams. She is experienced teaching undergraduate, MBA, Masters, Executive MBA and PhD programs across different countries (Australia, Croatia, Germany, Spain, and USA), and works with corporate clients as well in developing their employees (e.g. Siemens) or entrepreneurs (e.g. Deutsche Börse). She received multiple awards for her research and teaching. Prior to joining TUM, she was an entrepreneurship professor at IE Business School in Madrid, where she continues to teach as a Visiting Faculty.
