Module 2, Course 7: A media canvas as a basic tool for media communication for scientists! (August 5-6, 2021)06.08.2021 09:00 - 17:00 (Fri)
Course Description:

The science career is changing in the age of mass media: As a scientist, you are expected to be able to effectively present yourself and your research in all channels. Scientists are also increasingly being judged on whether they can express themselves in the media - not only in the scientific community, but also among the public.

The tools and approaches for public communication, however, differ significantly from the classical scientific communication in representing complex research topics. Only those who have media literacy can convey their message credibly and convincingly.

We package your research history for the journalistic world and transfer your dissertation into a media canvas – a basic system that allows you to be prepared for every form of media channel in the future.

Key takeaways:

  • Knowledge of media news factors and gatekeeper systematics
  • Systematic review of your dissertation to identify media news factors
  • A two-page canvas which will help you when interacting with different media channels in  future
  • Psychological personality test, providing an indication for your individual media channel preferences
  • A reflection on your personality and communication patterns and, based on this, an individual assessment of what skills you need to strengthen to feel comfortable when interacting with media in future
