Course Description: 

The lecture introduces how we can use neuroimaging techniques to further the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. Each lecture will focus either on a certain neuropsychiatric disorder under the perspective of brain imaging techniques or on a certain brain imaging technique to neuropsychiatric disorders. Thus, some lectures emphasize more the neuroscience part, using multi-modal brain imaging as a tool, other lectures emphasize imaging techniques, using the neuropsychiatric disorder as an application case. Lectures are grouped around selected topics: schizophrenia, premature birth, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic pain, and multiple sclerosis. Imaging techniques concern mainly advanced human brain imaging (MRI, PET, EEG) but also two lectures about animal imaging. The lecture series is continued in the summer semester. Learning Objectives: To know about most advanced neuroimaging techniques, (2) to learn how these techniques further the understanding of neuropsychiatric disorders, (3) to learn about implications for the diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders
