Course Description:

Science communication is not just about raising the profile of one’s own research and organization, but also about involving society, explaining the mission of science, and building trust in scientific work. Engaging with the public also helps researchers to gain a clearer perspective on their own work.

In this course participants will learn how to capture attention for scientific topics in an increasingly complex media landscape and how to communicate these topics across various formats—such as podcasts, social media, and science festivals, focusing on how to engage the public. They will also develop their own communication format.

Course aims:
  • You will acquire basic knowledge about the main actors in science communication and about strategies of how to communicate your work engaging the public.
  • You will understand the importance of defining target groups, designing a content plan and distributing your format.
  • You will work on your own format idea and design a prototype.
Teaching methods:

Case studies, Project based learning, Group exercises.
