Course Description: 

Communication and Leadership Skills for Doctoral Candidates

Unlock your growth and leadership potential! A program designed to equip scientists with the tools to grow their own as well as emerging talent and enhance their leadership and communication skills in the scientific environment and beyond.

This program is the opportunity to lead by example and develop oneself and others.

  • Distinction of Leadership Roles: Understanding the differences between mentoring, coaching, managing, and other professional roles 
  • Values Awareness: Identifying and articulating personal values in the leadership context
  • Motivation: Understanding human motivation, patterns, and their practical applications, including self-awareness of one's own patterns.
  • Frameworks and Models: Familiarity with the GROW model, Emotional Intelligence principles, empathy, active listening, questioning techniques, and the SBI model.

  • Growth Orientation: Commitment to mutual development, experimentation, and skill-building.

Course aims:

  • Reading and Using Body Language: Observing, interpreting, and leveraging non-verbal cues to enhance conversations.
  • Self-Reflection: Regular evaluation of listening styles, questioning effectiveness, and communication habits.
  • Guiding Conversations: Maintaining conversation flow with questions rather than answers and creating productive dialogue.
  • Feedback Delivery: Mastery of delivering concrete, constructive, and actionable feedback using SBI.

Teaching methods:
