Course Description: 

This course focuses on introducing the R programming language to the participants and the underlying building blocks such as R syntax, operations, objects and data types. This enables the participants to learn how to write code in R in order to read, manipulate and visualise data.

Course aims: 
  • Get started with R and RStudio
  • R objects and R data types
  • Importing data
  • Working with data frames
  • Using functions in R
  • Data manipulations and workflow
  • Working with dates and characters
  • Building graphs in R

Teaching methods: 

This course includes a range of activities such as demonstrations, live-coding sessions, interactive quizzes, and practical exercises to work individually or in a group. Active participation and contribution are highly recommended.

This course fits doctoral candidates in the following phase: 

At the beginning of the doctorate │ during the doctorate │ at the end of the doctorate

Participation requirements: 

No prior knowledge of the R programming language is required for this course.

Technical requirements: 

Participants should have their own laptop with R, RStudio and the relevant packages installed. Instructions for the technical setup will be circulated by the instructor before the course.

None.

The course will be delivered using Zoom and it will not be recorded.
