How to effectively operate in the virtual world

Introduction to the course topics:

The way teams collaborate has changed drastically – not only since Corona. This interactive workshop will teach you principles, methods and tools to make your virtual team a success. We will cover strategies and ideas as well tips and tricks which will help you when leading a meeting in the online world. We will cover:

  • Common challenges in the online communication
  • The right technology for online meetings
  • Principles for effective online moderation
  • Roles in the virtual meeting
  • Keeping focus and engaging participants
  • Working together in online meetings: Miro, googledocs, ethernet etc.
  • Surveys and retrospectives online
  • Keeping a record of the results of your meeting
  • Netiquette, rules and tips for effectiveness and focus in meetings

Course aims:

  • Participants will know the main principles and methods for online meetings and will have learned how to use them
  • They will have seen/tried some tools for a more effective online meeting
  • They will have developed an awareness of the differences „online“ vs offline“ and will have understood what is required to make an online meeting successful

Teaching methods: The mini-workshop is designed as a practice- and dialogue-based training with inputs, exercises, discussions and reflection in group work in Breakout rooms. Participants have the opportunity to experience some of the methods in the workshop (e.g. online surveys) and will also be provided with a number of tips and tools to implement straight after the workshop.

This course fits doctoral candidates in the following phase: at the beginning of the doctorate │during the doctorate │ at the end of the doctorate

Patricia Meyer

Patricia Meyer brings over 25 years of work experience in various industries to the table and has been reinforcing the Lukas Bischof Team for 2 years. For many years she worked as a Project Manager for an international IT B2B Sales and Marketing agency in the UK. The skills, knowledge and experience she acquired over the years are central to the Project Management training as well as productivity and time management training she has been delivering over the last 9 years. Doing all of her remotely has equipped her with thorough knowledge and a hands-on experience in running online meetings successfully. She joined the LBHB team in early 2020 working with various groups in Higher Education with a special focus on PhD students. Since LBHB operates as a virtual team all of the principles and methods she teaches in this workshop are actively applied and developed across the trainer team. Patricia holds a journalism degree (Licentiata rerum publicarum) after successfully completing her interdisciplinary studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. She is also a trained CoActive Coach and NLP Practitioner.
