Beschreibung Kursinhalt:

This course will provide participants with the skills and insights to create effective data visualisations while avoiding common pitfalls.

Combining hands-on practice with creative approaches, the workshop will encourage participants to develop an intuition for data visualisation and explore new ways to represent data clearly and effectively.

Lernziele:
  • Improved Visualisation Skills: Participants will learn to apply core data visualisation principles to create clearer, more impactful representations.
  • The Power of Sketching: Participants will learn how to use quick, rough sketches to explore ideas, refine concepts, and gather meaningful feedback.
  • Critical Evaluation Techniques: Participants will develop the ability to critically assess and improve visualisations for clarity and effectiveness, and learn how to ask for valuable feedback from anyone to enhance their work.
  • Awareness of Ethical Concerns: Participants will learn to recognise when others use misleading visuals, and they will learn to create accurate and reliable visualisations that don’t mislead their audiences.

Lehrmethoden:

Before the course, a short homework assignment will help participants explore data visualisations in their field. The first course day (face-to-face) will include short inputs, group discussions, and hands-on exercises in pairs and small groups. Participants will also work independently, reflecting and working on their own visualisations. Throughout the course, they will be encouraged to think creatively about data and data visualisations, experimenting with unconventional formats and materials like pen and paper.

On the second course day, participants will have individual 30-minute coaching sessions for personalised feedback.

Der Kurs ist für Promovierende in folgender Phase geeignet:

Hannah Kunde

Hannah Kunde holds a degree in Psychology with a focus on Learning Sciences and is currently completing her PhD at the intersection of leadership research, experimental/cognitive psychology, and neuroscience, with her dissertation to be submitted soon. Her passion for data and data visualisations began during her Master's. Throughout her PhD, she developed and taught the data visualisation course she always wished existed during her studies. Hannah is excited to share her knowledge and help doctoral candidates enhance their data visualisation skills.
