Beschreibung Kursinhalt:

The future availability of local information in real time will fundamentally change the process of individual decision making in complex systems, which are composed of many interacting parts showing a collective emergent behaviour. The relatively new science of agent-based modelling and non-random networks seems to offer promising tools to support decision-making in these situations, as it explicitly models the heterogeneity of the objects, which can adapt and interact in time and space.

The objective of the lecture is to give doctoral candidates an introduction to the capabilities and the process of agent-based modelling and simulation as well as of modelling static and dynamic networks with the help of a big number of relevant models from different disciplines.

Acquired competencies:

  • Awareness and basic understanding of complexity as one of the biggest challenges of the agent society
  • Basics of agent-based modelling and simulation methods
  • Basics of modelling static and dynamic networks
  • Proficiency in selecting and applying the appropriate methods and tools for simulation, like NetLogo or Gephi

Applied methods:

The seminar will be a mixture of lectures, demonstration of cases and group work.

This course will be conducted online via Zoom.

Technical requirements: Access to internet, laptop, camera, microphone.
