Introduction to the course topics:

Stressed during your doctorate?

In this workshop, you will learn quick and effective strategies to help deal with stress and anxiety, increase concentration and even help you to deepen your voice and increase confidence! Those techniques can be used ‘on the fly’, like before giving a presentation or even before your defense talk. 

The workshop will also incorporate theoretical reviews discussing evidence of the effects of breathing exercises and mediation on cognition and the brain. 

In the practical part, we will learn distinct kinds of relaxation methods based on mastering (1) breath, (2) posture, and (3) meditation. By the end of this workshop you would own a toolbox of diverse techniques, find out which techniques work best for you, and gain confidence in you own ability to cope with stressful situations hence reducing internal stress.

A detailed written summary, a summary-card will be provided. There is no need to wear sports clothes, but we recommend comfortable clothes

Course aims:

  • Learn, practice and compare different types of relaxation and confidence-boosting techniques (involving breath, posture, meditation)
  • Each participant will own a toolbox of diverse techniques and find out which technique work best for him/her
  • Gain confidence in own ability to cope with stressful situations hence reducing internal stress

Teaching methods:

Distinct kinds of relaxation methods based on mastering (1) breath, (2) posture, and (3) meditation will be learned.

Information about the trainer:

Ruth is a neuroscientist, data scientist and a yoga teacher. Since completing her Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2008, she conducted research in various topics ranging from multisensory integration and attention, to predicting stroke outcome at the Max-Planck-Institute, University of Heidelberg and the University Hospital of Munich (LMU). She was a data scientist in a digital health startup and is currently a working in the pharmaceutical industry. The methods that will be taught here helped her throughout her career to relieve stress..
