Storytelling in Academia: Giving your Research the Voice, it deserves! (online)

You consider your research extremely important? You think it is worth to be communicated to a broader audience, but it sounds yet too nerdy to address it at dinner talks? – If your answers to these questions are “yes”, this seminar is for you.

Learning outcomes:

• Know how to frame your research topic in ways that communicate to broader audiences
• Learn about concepts and tools of storytelling and how to communicate research topics to different target groups and through diverse channels (e.g. podcast interviews, YouTube videos, workshop concepts, news articles or even TV broadcasts)
• Learn how to frame your topic, find the right target group for your purpose and develop a master plan to provide your topic the room that it deserves

Methods applied:

• Theoretical introduction to basic communication concepts
• Storytelling in concept and practice
• Development of the “own” story in guidance and group work
• Lean approach to first own concepts
• Learning environment with direct feedback from the trainer and the group

Target group:

• Doctoral candidates who seek to spread the topic they are passionate about
• Doctoral candidates who feel misunderstood about their topics and want to frame it more adequately to different audiences
• Doctoral candidates who seek research grants from the industry or investors (and need to convince people without their specific research background)

This course will be conducted online via Zoom. Please make sure that you are able to use Zoom in advance.
